DMK working president M.K. Stalin issued a strong condemnation on April 30, 2017, warning against increasing central government encroachments designed to paralyze Tamil Nadu's administrative autonomy. Stalin pointed out that the Union government was systematically exploiting internal political instability within the ruling state party to assert unconstitutional control over regional governance. Such authoritative overreach, he argued, directly infringed upon constitutional federalism and diminished the democratic mandate of state institutions.
Stalin observed that central agencies and administrative directives were being deployed selectively to pressure state officials and dictate local policy outcomes. Rather than functioning as a collaborative partner in national development, the Union government was treating Tamil Nadu as a subordinate territory, disregarding its distinct fiscal, educational, and cultural priorities. He noted that the weakened state leadership failed to resist these intrusions, leaving the protection of regional sovereignty in the hands of vigilant democratic forces.
The opposition leader reaffirmed that the DMK would vigorously resist any attempt to reduce state autonomy. He emphasized that India's constitutional strength lies in respecting federal diversity and regional self-respect, declaring that Tamil Nadu will never compromise its administrative rights or democratic dignity.
