DMK working president M.K. Stalin conveyed warm May Day greetings to the working class on May 1, 2017, affirming that the DMK would steadfastly champion laborers' rights under all circumstances. Stalin stated that whether confronting restrictive new labor legislation, unilateral contract policies, or the multifaceted pressures of globalization, the party would remain at the forefront of the labor movement. He praised workers across industrial units, agricultural fields, and informal sectors as the true builders of the state's economy.
Stalin recalled the DMK's historic commitment to social justice and labor dignity, established under leaders like C.N. Annadurai and M. Karunanidhi, who enacted pioneering welfare boards and worker protections. In modern times, with economic changes undermining job security and fair wages, organized political backing is essential to prevent the erosion of labor standards. The opposition leader pledged that DMK legislators would actively resist any statutory revisions that weaken collective bargaining or dilute hard-won trade union protections.
Stalin concluded by urging workers to remain united in safeguarding their democratic rights. He promised that the DMK would consistently provide unwavering institutional support to secure fair compensation, occupational safety, and dignified livelihoods.
