DMK working president M.K. Stalin issued a sharp rebuke to the ruling AIADMK government on May 2, 2017, urging the Chief Minister to abandon ostentatious rhetoric and focus on delivering essential public welfare initiatives. Stalin pointed out that grandiose public declarations could no longer hide systemic administrative paralysis across state departments. Ordinary citizens, he observed, were enduring real hardships while the executive apparatus remained consumed by internal power struggles and empty propaganda.
Stalin stressed that genuine governance requires tangible administrative action rather than staged media announcements. Across rural and urban Tamil Nadu, basic public services, agrarian relief measures, and healthcare infrastructure remained neglected due to lack of administrative leadership. Instead of addressing the daily challenges confronting farmers, daily-wage laborers, and small traders, the ruling cabinet appeared disconnected from ground realities, offering promotional claims in place of practical governance.
The opposition leader stated that the DMK would consistently hold the government accountable to the people. He demanded that state authorities redirect their energy toward implementing welfare schemes that directly improve living standards. Stalin emphasized that good administration is measured by prompt public service delivery, transparent decision-making, and proactive problem-solving rather than boastful public declarations.
