DMK working president M.K. Stalin expressed profound concern on May 10, 2017, over the accelerating flight of major industrial capital from Tamil Nadu, warning that the state was losing its preeminent reputation as an attractive investment destination. Stalin highlighted that after global automaker Kia Motors chose to establish its manufacturing plant in neighboring Andhra Pradesh rather than Tamil Nadu, pharmaceutical firm Syndel had likewise exited the state.
Stalin attributed this severe industrial exodus directly to the rampant corruption, extortion demands, and administrative paralysis characterizing the AIADMK administration. Prospective industrial investors were confronted with systemic demands for bribes, policy uncertainty, and bureaucratic delays at every level of state governance. Consequently, industrial projects generating thousands of high-quality employment opportunities for Tamil Nadu's educated youth were being systematically driven into rival southern states.
The opposition leader demanded that the state government immediately establish an autonomous industrial grievance cell and publish a comprehensive white paper detailing lost investment proposals over the past three years. He emphasized that reviving industrial momentum requires clean, transparent, and responsive governance. Stalin affirmed that the DMK would continue to champion industrial development and advocate for transparent, business-friendly economic policies.
