DMK working president M.K. Stalin visited GKM Colony in his legislative constituency of Kolathur on the morning of May 11, 2017, inaugurating comprehensive desilting operations at the local Muthumariamman temple tank. In addition to launching the water body revival, Stalin reviewed several neighborhood civic maintenance projects and public amenities across the constituency to address localized infrastructure concerns.

Stalin emphasized that neighborhood temple tanks historically served as critical urban water management systems, acting as localized rainwater collectors and maintaining groundwater levels for surrounding residential streets. Over years of municipal neglect, the Muthumariamman tank had accumulated deep silt, weeds, and urban waste, rendering it ineffective. Under the DMK Volunteers for Water campaign, voluntary cadre teams and technical machinery were deployed to thoroughly clean the tank bed and reinforce peripheral stone embankments.

Addressing local residents, Stalin stated that addressing drinking water shortages and municipal upkeep required persistent, proactive attention rather than sporadic election promises. He assured his constituents that he would continuously monitor civic infrastructure improvements in Kolathur, ensuring that public complaints receive prompt redress. Stalin reaffirmed his dedication to transforming local communities through participatory civic governance and dedicated public service.
