DMK working president M.K. Stalin expressed heartfelt gratitude to the people of Tamil Nadu on May 11, 2017, following the enthusiastic public response to the launch of community desilting works across several districts. Stalin declared that although the DMK was functioning from the opposition benches in the legislative assembly, its historical commitment to serving the public interest would never diminish or pause.

Stalin observed that severe drought conditions and consecutive monsoon deficits had left rural farmers and urban communities in desperate need of water security. While the ruling administration remained paralyzed by factional infighting and administrative negligence, DMK cadres, elected representatives, and local residents mobilized heavy machinery and voluntary labor to clean community ponds, irrigation tanks, and channels. The widespread public appreciation demonstrated that citizens recognized genuine civic dedication.

The opposition leader reiterated that true political leadership is measured by constructive service to society rather than mere occupancy of executive office. He called upon party functionaries to sustain the water conservation campaign with unwavering discipline and transparency across every legislative constituency. Stalin reaffirmed that the DMK would remain at the vanguard of defending public welfare and protecting Tamil Nadu's ecological resources.
