DMK working president M.K. Stalin condemned the AIADMK administration on May 18, 2017, over massive administrative blunders that halted thousands of crores in educational scholarships intended for Adi Dravidar and Scheduled Tribe students. Stalin revealed that due to government negligence and procedural delays, thirty-six point three eight crore rupees in incentive allowances for girl students and over two thousand five hundred and ninety-eight crore rupees in post-matric scholarships remained unreleased.
Stalin explained that withholding scholarship allocations inflicted severe financial distress on vulnerable students enrolled in professional and arts colleges across the state. Many educational institutions threatened to withhold hall tickets, bar students from attending semester examinations, or deny degree certificates due to non-payment of government scholarship fees. He remarked that denying statutory educational assistance to marginalized youths represents a grave blow against social justice and educational mobility.
The opposition leader demanded immediate administrative rectification and the prompt disbursement of all pending scholarship funds directly to eligible beneficiaries. He warned that the DMK would mobilize statewide student protests if the government failed to resolve the scholarship crisis immediately. Stalin reiterated that educational empowerment of oppressed communities remains a non-negotiable tenet of Dravidian governance.
