DMK working president M.K. Stalin urged the AIADMK administration on May 19, 2017, to implement constructive, far-reaching educational initiatives that enable younger generations to comprehend the antiquity, richness, and cultural significance of the Tamil language. Stalin emphasized that state cultural policy should move beyond token declarations and actively foster deep linguistic appreciation among school and university students.

Stalin observed that Tamil possesses an unbroken classical literary heritage spanning thousands of years, encompassing Sangam poetry, ethical epics, and modern progressive literature. However, modern commercial pressures and centralized educational trends risked alienating younger Tamils from their linguistic roots. He stressed that preserving and nurturing the mother tongue requires vibrant digital resources, modernized textbooks, archaeological awareness, and institutional support for creative writing and classical scholarship.

The opposition leader stated that the Dravidian movement has historically linked linguistic pride with social justice, egalitarianism, and democratic empowerment. He called upon the state government to fund dedicated research chairs, digitize ancient palm-leaf manuscripts, and sponsor statewide student literary conferences. Stalin concluded that strengthening linguistic identity among youth remains a vital bulwark against cultural homogenization and an indispensable element of Tamil pride.
