DMK working president M.K. Stalin launched a severe critique against the AIADMK administration on May 20, 2017, declaring that Tamil Nadu's law and order machinery had suffered total collapse. Stalin stated that the state police force, historically recognized for its exceptional professional acumen, had been reduced to a grounded vessel like a rudderless ship due to political interference and leadership paralysis.
Stalin pointed out that routine policing had deteriorated alarmingly, resulting in escalating violent crimes, illicit sand mining, highway robberies, and rampant narcotics trade across several districts. Rather than empowering professional police officials to maintain public order and protect citizens, the ruling dispensation utilized the police department as an instrument for political surveillance and suppressing democratic protests. He observed that honest officers were sidelined or subjected to retaliatory transfers while administrative indecision demoralized the entire police hierarchy.
The opposition leader demanded that the state government immediately cease interfering in day-to-day law enforcement operations. He urged administrative authorities to restore professional autonomy, establish accountability, and ensure the safety of women, traders, and ordinary citizens. Stalin emphasized that restoring public trust in police administration remains essential for maintaining social stability and economic progress across Tamil Nadu.
