Editorial context

DMK working president M.K. Stalin issued a statement on May 24, 2017, urging the School Education Department to cease issuing daily publicity announcements and instead formulate prudent, long-term educational policies in consultation with experienced educationists. Stalin pointed out that while the education minister made sensational daily media statements regarding curriculum overhauls and syllabus changes, genuine classroom realities and student needs remained neglected.

Stalin stressed that reforming school education requires scientific planning, rigorous academic research, and broad consensus among teachers, pedagogical experts, child psychologists, and parents. Issuing ad-hoc announcements without structural planning generated severe confusion among students preparing for competitive examinations and board assessments. He argued that superficial reforms could not compensate for acute teacher shortages, inadequate classroom infrastructure, and missing laboratory facilities across state-run government schools.

The opposition leader demanded that the state government establish dedicated academic commissions comprising eminent scholars to draft comprehensive educational reforms. He cautioned against politicizing school administration or reducing educational policy to public relations exercises. Stalin affirmed that the DMK remains committed to defending quality public education, promoting equal educational opportunities, and strengthening government schools across all districts of Tamil Nadu.

This is an initiative of unofficial DMK and Dravidian Ideology supporter, a fan of Thanthai Periyar, Perarignar Anna and Kalaignar — not affiliated with any official DMK party or persons.
