DMK working president M.K. Stalin sharply criticized the AIADMK government on May 29, 2017, following reports that state administration departments had been instructed to compile publicity dossiers celebrating central government achievements. Stalin declared that spending state administrative resources to publicize central schemes merely to protect ministerial positions was an unforgivable betrayal of Tamil Nadu's dignity and regional interests.
Stalin pointed out that Tamil Nadu was reeling under an unprecedented agricultural drought, high rural indebtedness, water shortages, and student unrest over medical entrance examinations. Instead of demanding disaster relief funds and statutory rights from the central government, the state cabinet behaved like an unelected proxy regime seeking political patronage from New Delhi. He characterized this submissive posture as a complete surrender of state autonomy and an insult to the self-respect legacy of Tamil Nadu.
The opposition leader stated that the primary duty of any elected state administration is to safeguard the welfare of its own citizens rather than functioning as a publicity vehicle for the Union government. He demanded an immediate halt to the misuse of state machinery for partisan central propaganda. Stalin asserted that the DMK would expose this administrative servility across every public platform.
