DMK working president M.K. Stalin accused the ruling AIADMK administration on June 10, 2017, of functioning as a proxy government subordinate to the central government. Stalin asserted that it was entirely appropriate to label the state dispensation a benami regime because it systematically ignored the urgent grievances of Tamil Nadu while spending state resources to advertise central government schemes.
Stalin argued that the state administration had surrendered Tamil Nadu's constitutional autonomy in exchange for political survival. Rather than championing critical state interests such as exemption from the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test, drought relief assistance, and federal tax allocations, ministers functioned as uncritical mouthpieces for central policies. This subservience, he maintained, directly damaged the welfare and sovereign rights of the people of Tamil Nadu.
The opposition leader stated that true state leadership requires standing firm on regional rights and holding the Union government accountable to constitutional federalism. The DMK reaffirmed its commitment to challenging the surrender of state autonomy and defending the interests of farmers, students, and citizens. Stalin insisted that the state administration must prioritize local issues over partisan subservience to central authorities.
