DMK working president M.K. Stalin launched a sharp political attack on June 17, 2017, asserting that the corrupt administration led by Chief Minister Edappadi K. Palaniswami was operating merely as a grateful surrogate for convicted leader V.K. Sasikala. Stalin stated that recent controversial resolutions pushed through the Legislative Assembly by the treasury benches were nothing more than an overt repayment of the political debt owed to Sasikala, who engineered the Koovathur horse-trading episode that installed Palaniswami in power.
The opposition leader stated that rather than serving the welfare of seven crore citizens of Tamil Nadu, the state cabinet dedicated its entire energy to protecting the commercial interests and political control of Sasikala's family clan. Despite her conviction for disproportionate assets by the Supreme Court, government leaders continued to treat her as their supreme authority, subverting executive autonomy and tarnishing the state's administrative dignity. Stalin pointed out that an administration born out of resort captivity and illicit financial patronage could never offer honest, independent governance.
Stalin declared that the people of Tamil Nadu see through these political maneuvers and will decisively reject the proxy regime. The DMK will continue to expose this unprincipled political nexus.
