DMK working president M.K. Stalin announced on June 18, 2017, that all opposition parties in Tamil Nadu had decided to jointly meet Governor Ch. Vidyasagar Rao to register an official protest against the authoritarian suppression of debate inside the Legislative Assembly. Stalin explained that the united delegation was formed after Assembly Speaker P. Dhanapal repeatedly rejected opposition notices seeking an urgent discussion on explosive sting operation footage showing AIADMK legislators discussing massive cash bribes.
The opposition leader stated that stifling discussion on such a grave assault on constitutional morality rendered the legislative forum ineffective. When the presiding officer consistently denies permission to table undeniable evidence of floor-test bribery, the opposition is left with no option but to seek intervention from the constitutional head of the state. Stalin emphasized that the DMK, alongside Congress, Indian Union Muslim League, and allied secular parties, stood united in demanding full transparency and an independent inquiry into the illegitimate confidence vote.
Stalin affirmed that the joint delegation would urge the Governor to take prompt action against the corrupt administration. Preserving legislative sanctity remains paramount for protecting democracy in Tamil Nadu.
