DMK working president M.K. Stalin extended full support on June 18, 2017, to the Tamil Nadu Graduate Teachers' Federation and urged the state government to immediately fill twenty-five thousand vacant teaching positions in the School Education Department. Stalin stated that acute staffing shortages across government schools were severely compromising classroom instruction and jeopardizing the academic future of millions of underprivileged children who depend on public education.
The opposition leader stated that prolonged delays in recruiting qualified teachers forced existing staff to handle multiple classes simultaneously, resulting in instructional fatigue and declining educational outcomes. Despite thousands of trained graduate teachers waiting for employment after clearing statutory eligibility tests, the administration failed to conduct recruitment drives or sanction adequate budget allocations. Stalin emphasized that neglecting school infrastructure and faculty appointments while commercial private institutions flourished was a deliberate abdication of the state's constitutional obligation to ensure free, quality schooling.
Stalin demanded that the School Education Minister announce a transparent recruitment timeline immediately. He pledged that a future DMK government would prioritize educational staffing, teacher welfare, and the revitalization of public schooling across Tamil Nadu.
