Editorial context

DMK working president M.K. Stalin demanded on June 19, 2017, that Tamil Nadu Health Minister C. Vijayabaskar and other implicated political leaders resign from their ministerial posts immediately to ensure a fair and untainted investigation into massive financial irregularities unearthed during Income Tax searches. Stalin asserted that continuing to occupy high cabinet office while facing documented allegations of bribery and tax evasion severely obstructed law enforcement agencies from conducting an impartial probe.

The opposition leader pointed out that searches conducted at the minister's residences and business premises had yielded incriminating ledgers indicating illicit distribution of over eighty-nine crore rupees during the cancelled RK Nagar by-election, alongside payoffs related to banned tobacco sales. Stalin emphasized that holding ministerial portfolios gave the accused direct control over state administrative machinery, police departments, and public records, creating an undeniable conflict of interest that compromised institutional investigations. Resignation was the only honorable course to maintain democratic ethics.

Stalin urged the Chief Minister to drop the tainted minister from the cabinet without further delay. He reaffirmed that the DMK will persistently demand total accountability to eradicate institutional corruption in Tamil Nadu.
