DMK working president M.K. Stalin strongly condemned Tamil Nadu Legislative Assembly Speaker P. Dhanapal on June 21, 2017, for suppressing an official communication sent by the Governor's office concerning explosive bribery allegations against AIADMK lawmakers. Stalin stated that Raj Bhavan had formally forwarded a directive to the Speaker and the Chief Secretary calling for an investigation into sting operation recordings that revealed MLAs admitting to receiving massive cash and gold bribes during the February confidence vote.
The opposition leader stated that the Speaker's refusal to table the Governor's letter in the assembly or initiate immediate action constituted a grave breach of parliamentary transparency. Instead of safeguarding the dignity of the legislative house and ordering a prompt inquiry into vote-buying evidence, the presiding officer actively shielded the ruling faction from scrutiny. Stalin noted that suppressing official correspondence from the constitutional head of state degraded democratic decorum and turned the assembly secretariat into an instrument of partisan protection.
Stalin demanded full disclosure of all official records regarding the horse-trading scandal. He reiterated that the DMK will pursue legal remedies to ensure criminal accountability.
