DMK working president M.K. Stalin questioned Chief Minister Edappadi K. Palaniswami on June 25, 2017, demanding a clear public explanation regarding the state government's decision to reserve fifteen percent of medical admissions for Central Board of Secondary Education students. Stalin asked on what constitutional or statistical basis this special allocation was created when CBSE students constituted less than ten percent of all candidates appearing for the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test in Tamil Nadu.
The opposition leader stated that this arbitrary quota severely penalized the overwhelming majority of students who studied under the state board curriculum, particularly those from rural, underprivileged, and vernacular-medium backgrounds. By allocating a disproportionately higher share of medical seats to CBSE candidates, the state administration actively discriminated against state board students who relied on public schooling. Stalin pointed out that the government's sudden policy maneuver lacked empirical justification, legislative sanction, or consultative review with educationists.
Stalin demanded that the Chief Minister clarify this discriminatory admission formula immediately and withdraw policies that disadvantage state board candidates. The DMK reiterated its commitment to defending equitable educational opportunities for all state students.
