DMK working president M.K. Stalin conducted a field inspection of the Vaiyapuri temple pond in Injambakkam along the East Coast Road on June 29, 2017. The historic water body had been completely desilted, deepened, and restored by dedicated DMK cadres and local volunteers as part of the party's statewide water conservation initiative, which stepped in to revive neglected water bodies during a crippling regional drought.
Stalin observed that voluntary community action had successfully cleared decades of silt, garbage, and invasive weeds, significantly expanding the pond's rainwater harvesting capacity and recharging nearby groundwater aquifers. He praised the local party workers for their selfless labor and civic commitment, emphasizing that while the state government remained indifferent to drought preparedness, DMK cadres mobilized machinery and manual resources to protect public water assets. Stalin highlighted that local residents and coastal communities would benefit directly from enhanced freshwater retention.
Stalin urged volunteers to continue monitoring and protecting rejuvenated water bodies from pollution and encroachment. He affirmed that the DMK will persistently lead community initiatives to ensure ecological security and water resilience across Tamil Nadu. He called upon citizens to participate actively in protecting regional water bodies.
