DMK working president M.K. Stalin urged the Union Ministry of Home Affairs on June 30, 2017, to intervene decisively in the appointment of Tamil Nadu's next Director General of Police. Stalin demanded that the central authority prepare an impartial, merit-based empanelment list strictly adhering to Prakash Singh guidelines established by the Supreme Court, ensuring that meritorious and senior Indian Police Service officers are not unfairly superseded for political expediency.
The opposition leader stated that bypassing seasoned, unblemished police officers to accommodate favored individuals facing serious integrity clouds destroys morale across the police cadre. The credibility of the law enforcement leadership is foundational to public order, communal peace, and effective crime prevention throughout the state. Stalin pointed out that allowing political favoritism to dictate top police postings compromises operational neutrality and diminishes the constitutional independence of law enforcement institutions.
Stalin urged Union authorities to ensure absolute transparency and seniority in shortlisting candidates for the state police chief post. He affirmed that the DMK will persistently demand institutional accountability and ethical governance across all public appointments. Restoring public trust in police leadership remains indispensable for good governance.
