DMK working president and Leader of the Opposition M.K. Stalin participated in the discussion on the Police Demand for Grants in the Tamil Nadu Legislative Assembly on July 7, 2017. Rising during the budgetary debate, Stalin presented a detailed inventory of law and order failures across the state, citing rising crime rates, administrative apathy, and compromised policing under the ruling administration.
Stalin argued that effective policing requires professional autonomy and freedom from partisan political interference. He pointed out that police morale had suffered severely due to political interference in routine investigations and the shielding of influential persons facing serious corruption allegations. The opposition leader highlighted specific incidents of public unrest, illicit contraband distribution, and unresolved criminal cases that demonstrated growing administrative paralysis in the home department.
Stalin urged the government to overhaul law enforcement priorities and hold senior officers accountable to statutory standards. He emphasized that citizen safety cannot be ensured through hollow claims and political speeches while ground-level enforcement remains compromised. The DMK pledged to continue demanding transparency and executive accountability inside the legislature. He reaffirmed that the DMK will persistently hold the home department accountable to ensure public safety.
