DMK working president M.K. Stalin exposed the competitive subservience of rival AIADMK factions on July 10, 2017, pointing out that former Chief Minister O. Panneerselvam was deliberately targeting the DMK to earn favor from patrons in New Delhi. Stalin stated that both Edappadi K. Palaniswami and Panneerselvam were engaged in a desperate race to function as the political mask of the BJP in Tamil Nadu, sacrificing regional self-respect to secure central patronage.

The opposition leader underscored that Panneerselvam had reduced himself to an obedient instrument of the central government, taking cues from New Delhi handlers to weaken Tamil Nadu's collective political voice. Rather than addressing economic distress, agrarian crises, or administrative drift gripping the state, Panneerselvam engaged in baseless accusations against the DMK to prove his utility to northern overseers. Stalin noted that manufacturing artificial political conflicts against the opposition could not conceal how both factions surrendered state autonomy to maintain central favor.

Stalin reaffirmed that the DMK draws its mandate directly from the people of Tamil Nadu and will never bow before external political masters. He emphasized that the Dravidian movement remains the uncompromising bulwark defending state rights against covert attempts to impose central hegemony.
