DMK working president M.K. Stalin challenged former Chief Minister O. Panneerselvam on July 10, 2017, questioning whether he possessed the legislative fortitude to confront the ruling dispensation inside the Tamil Nadu Legislative Assembly. Stalin challenged Panneerselvam to raise the explosive issues of MLA horse-trading at Koovathur, unchecked riverbed sand looting, and Election Commission directives to register cases against Chief Minister Edappadi K. Palaniswami for voter bribery.
The opposition leader pointed out that while Panneerselvam made dramatic public statements before cameras regarding moral uprightness, he remained subservient and silent when attending legislative proceedings. Instead of using his platform to hold the regime accountable for plundering state resources and subverting democratic mandates, Panneerselvam avoided direct confrontation on the floor of the House. Stalin stated that this duplicity exposed his rebellion as a calculated bargain aimed purely at political accommodation with the ruling faction.
Stalin reaffirmed that the DMK alone served as the authentic voice of accountability, relentlessly confronting executive misconduct inside the legislature. He urged leaders to match their public rhetoric with genuine legislative integrity. The critique underscored Stalin's consistent exposure of political opportunism among rival factions.
