DMK working president M.K. Stalin demanded inside the Tamil Nadu Legislative Assembly on July 11, 2017, that the state government introduce and pass an official legislative resolution declaring that the controversial Neduvasal hydrocarbon extraction project will never be permitted in the state. Stalin pointed out that local farmers, women, and youth had been staging non-violent protests for months to protect their fertile agricultural lands and precious groundwater resources from irreversible contamination.
The opposition leader underscored that mere verbal assurances from ministers were inadequate to address the genuine existential anxieties of the agrarian community in Pudukkottai district. A formal assembly resolution would establish a firm legal barrier, binding the executive and conveying the unambiguous consensus of the state against central resource exploitation. Stalin criticized the ruling AIADMK for evading legislative action and suppressing peaceful village protesters instead of standing shoulder to shoulder with the cultivating families of the Cauvery delta.
Stalin reaffirmed that the DMK will unreservedly champion the cause of farmers against harmful extraction schemes. He called upon the government to heed the democratic voice of Neduvasal and pass the resolution immediately. The intervention highlighted Stalin's principled leadership in defending agrarian ecology and rural livelihoods against industrial devastation.
