DMK working president M.K. Stalin raised alarming questions regarding the breakdown of public security inside the Tamil Nadu Legislative Assembly on July 14, 2017. Raising recent incidents where petrol bombs were hurled directly into a police station, Stalin asked how ordinary citizens could feel secure visiting police stations to lodge grievances when law enforcement premises themselves lacked basic protection against brazen criminal attacks.
The opposition leader pointed out that when antisocial elements carry out violent assaults against law enforcement personnel without fear, it exposes a complete collapse of police deterrence and administrative authority. Ruling party leaders consistently made hollow claims about Tamil Nadu being a peaceful haven, yet daily reports documented gang violence, armed extortion, and attacks on public institutions. Stalin emphasized that politicization of the police department and preoccupation with shielding corrupt politicians had severely crippled ground-level policing and left frontline personnel vulnerable.
Stalin demanded that the government take resolute action to restore public faith in law enforcement. He called for modern security equipment for police stations, independent investigations, and an end to political meddling in police duties. The DMK reaffirmed its commitment to ensuring a safe, fearless environment for every citizen across the state.
