DMK working president M.K. Stalin expressed profound anguish on July 14, 2017, after NITI Aayog's comprehensive survey ranked Tamil Nadu at the very bottom among major states in attracting industrial investments and facilitating new factory setups. Stalin pointed out that a state historically celebrated as India's manufacturing powerhouse had suffered a catastrophic economic decline under consecutive years of AIADMK governance, severely jeopardizing employment prospects for millions of skilled youth.
The opposition leader underscored that Tamil Nadu once led national indices in industrial output, automotive production, and foreign direct investment due to visionary infrastructure planning under previous DMK regimes. However, widespread bureaucratic extortion, pervasive demands for ministerial cuts, administrative paralysis, and chronic power mismanagement had driven major global corporations and domestic entrepreneurs to neighboring southern states. Stalin highlighted that NITI Aayog's dismal assessment confirmed the grim reality of capital flight and economic stagnation across Tamil Nadu's industrial corridors.
Stalin demanded transparent administrative overhauls, single-window clearances, and an end to corrupt rent-seeking to revive investor confidence. He warned that without decisive industrial reforms, state youth would face prolonged unemployment and economic marginalization. The DMK reaffirmed its commitment to restoring Tamil Nadu's premier status as an industrial powerhouse through transparent, business-friendly governance.
