DMK working president M.K. Stalin pointed out on July 21, 2017, that the Chief Secretary of Tamil Nadu deliberately concealed a vital communication from the Income Tax department in an official sworn affidavit filed before the Madras High Court. Stalin revealed that while tax officials had formally transmitted confidential documents detailing illegal payoffs in the gutkha trade to the state administration, the top bureaucrat omitted any reference to the communication in court submissions.
The opposition leader underscored that misleading a constitutional court under oath represents a grave violation of legal norms and administrative ethics. Suppressing central tax intelligence reports was clearly intended to shield implicated ministers and senior police officers from judicial scrutiny. Stalin argued that when the state's highest administrative official participates in concealing investigative evidence, constitutional governance breaks down completely and institutional checks lose their meaning.
Stalin demanded that the judiciary take serious cognizance of the deliberate omission and initiate appropriate legal proceedings. He reiterated that executive authorities must answer to the law rather than acting as political shields for ruling party figures. The DMK reaffirmed its commitment to presenting the complete evidentiary record before the court to ensure transparent accountability.
