DMK working president M.K. Stalin visited Tiruvannamalai district on July 22, 2017, to personally inspect eighteen major lakes and irrigation ponds desilted and restored by DMK workers. The comprehensive water conservation campaign was executed at an expenditure of 2.37 crore rupees mobilized entirely through party cadres and voluntary contributions. Stalin walked along the newly strengthened bunds and planted tree saplings to reinforce soil stability and enhance local ecological cover.
The opposition leader emphasized that the district suffered severe agrarian distress due to consecutive failed monsoons and dry village tanks. By deepening water storage beds and clearing choked feeder channels, the DMK initiative substantially expanded rainwater harvesting capacity across rural agricultural belts. Farmers and village residents expressed heartfelt gratitude for reviving irrigation sources that government departments had neglected for years. Stalin stated that practical water management requires on-the-ground execution rather than empty administrative announcements.
Stalin praised the collective dedication of party organizers and local farmers who collaborated on the restoration project. He reaffirmed that ecological rejuvenation and drought mitigation would remain central to DMK's governance agenda. The inspection highlighted the party's capacity to deliver impactful civic infrastructure improvements across vulnerable rural communities.
