DMK working president M.K. Stalin highlighted the extensive grassroots waterbody restoration drives undertaken by party volunteers across Tamil Nadu on July 22, 2017. Stalin affirmed that the DMK's continuous desilting operations provide concrete proof that the movement works steadfastly for people's daily welfare, rather than merely contesting elections to capture state power. The community-funded campaign revitalized neglected lakes, irrigation tanks, and channels during a severe drought cycle.
The opposition leader pointed out that while the ruling state administration allowed crucial water storage infrastructure to silt up through bureaucratic paralysis, DMK functionaries mobilized heavy machinery, local labor, and party funds to deepen reservoirs across drought-affected districts. This proactive volunteer intervention increased rainwater retention capacity, recharged depleted groundwater aquifers, and provided direct relief to distressed farming communities. Stalin noted that responsive political movements must step forward with constructive solutions when administrative systems fail ordinary citizens.
Stalin commended party cadres and civic volunteers for their selfless labor in water conservation. He reiterated that safeguarding natural resources and defending agrarian livelihoods remain core priorities of the Dravidian social movement. The statewide water conservation drive demonstrated how constructive public service can alleviate community distress even while in the opposition.
