DMK working president M.K. Stalin paid glowing homage to former President of India Dr. A.P.J. Abdul Kalam on his second death anniversary on July 27, 2017. Paying heartfelt respects on behalf of the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam, Stalin hailed Dr. Kalam as an inspiring visionary, peerless scientist, and beloved teacher who dedicated his entire life to national development, scientific education, and youth empowerment. His humble origins from Rameswaram and meteoric rise to become the Missile Man of India symbolized the boundless potential of public education.

Stalin reiterated the DMK's longstanding demand that the prestigious Madras Institute of Technology in Chromepet, Chennai, where Dr. Kalam studied aeronautical engineering, be formally named after him. Honoring the world-renowned alumnus by renaming his alma mater would serve as a permanent tribute to his monumental contributions and inspire generations of aspiring young engineers and scientists.

The DMK leader urged the state and central governments to establish advanced scientific research fellowships and youth innovation centers in Dr. Kalam's honor. Stalin pledged that the DMK would continue championing Dr. Kalam's dream of empowering every child through quality education.
