DMK working president M.K. Stalin strongly condemned the state police on July 27, 2017, for his arbitrary and undemocratic arrest in Coimbatore. Stalin was en route to Salem to lead a massive human chain demonstration demanding presidential assent for Tamil Nadu's NEET exemption legislation. Preemptively intercepting an elected Leader of the Opposition and detaining him in a marriage hall exposed the cowardice and authoritarian panic gripping the ruling AIADMK administration.
Stalin affirmed that the opposition alliance had organized the human chain agitation strictly within constitutional and peaceful boundaries to highlight the acute distress of medical aspirants. Deploying hundreds of police personnel to block opposition travel revealed that the state machinery was functioning as an instrument of executive vendetta rather than safeguarding public order. Such high-handed tactics demonstrated complete disdain for democratic conventions and legislative rights.
The DMK leader asserted that police barricades and preventive detentions could never extinguish the righteous anger of Tamil Nadu's student community. Stalin declared that neither intimidation nor arrests would halt the DMK's relentless struggle to eliminate NEET, protect social justice, and preserve educational equity for all students across the state.
