DMK working president M.K. Stalin urged Chief Minister Edappadi K. Palaniswami on July 31, 2017, to travel to New Delhi immediately, meet Prime Minister Narendra Modi in person, and apply decisive political pressure to obtain presidential assent for Tamil Nadu's NEET exemption bills. Stalin recalled that both houses of the state legislature had unanimously adopted two statutory enactments to insulate state quota medical admissions from the centralized entrance test, yet the bills remained stalled at the Union Home Ministry.
Stalin emphasized that issuing casual administrative appeals through junior emissaries would not resolve the acute crisis threatening thousands of rural medical aspirants. The Chief Minister had a constitutional obligation to lead an all-party delegation and convey the collective will of seven crore Tamils directly to the national leadership. Allowing the state bills to languish without presidential clearance betrayed the democratic mandate of the Tamil Nadu Legislative Assembly.
The DMK leader warned that time was running out as admission counselling schedules drew near. Stalin urged the state executive to act with utmost urgency, courage, and resolve to safeguard social justice in medical admissions.
