DMK working president M.K. Stalin exposed the glaring double standards of central tax authorities on August 2, 2017, questioning their selective operational enthusiasm. Stalin highlighted that the Income Tax department conducted aggressive searches at the residence of a Puducherry MLA who had resigned his legislative seat for the Chief Minister. However, the very same agency maintained complete silence regarding substantiated allegations and evidence of multi-crore cash payouts involving prominent leaders of the ruling AIADMK factions.
Stalin questioned why central tax inspectors displayed extraordinary vigilance against opposition figures while failing to register cases or conduct searches against state ministers whose diaries revealed extensive bribery networks. The conspicuous reluctance to investigate ruling party figures exposed how enforcement actions were politically guided from New Delhi. Shielding political allies while weaponizing investigations against adversaries violated the principle of equality before the law.
The DMK leader demanded an explanation for this selective judicial approach and called for impartial investigations into all high-level corruption allegations in Tamil Nadu. Stalin reaffirmed that selective enforcement will never suppress the rightful public demand for comprehensive accountability, administrative transparency, and social justice.
