DMK working president M.K. Stalin appealed to Prime Minister Narendra Modi on August 2, 2017, demanding an immediate end to the blatant misuse of premier federal agencies against political rivals. Stalin noted with grave concern that the Income Tax department, Enforcement Directorate, and Central Bureau of Investigation were being systematically deployed as political weapons to intimidate, harass, and coerce non-BJP parties across diverse states. Converting independent investigative bodies into instruments of partisan vendetta undermined the constitutional foundations of Indian democracy.
Stalin pointed out that selective raids and orchestrated leaks targeting opposition legislators while ignoring documented corruption among ruling alliance partners eroded public faith in institutional neutrality. When federal enforcement machinery is converted into a political enforcement wing of the central ruling party, the constitutional framework of cooperative federalism suffers irreparable damage. A mature parliamentary democracy requires fair electoral competition, not administrative coercion.
The DMK leader urged the Prime Minister to intervene decisively and restore the operational independence and professional integrity of statutory investigation agencies. Stalin warned that democratic opposition cannot be silenced or intimidated through state administrative pressure and partisan bureaucratic coercion.
