DMK working president M.K. Stalin expressed grave concern on August 4, 2017, over the complete lack of empathy shown by central and state governments toward agitating Tamil Nadu farmers. Stalin observed that while farming families were suffering the worst drought in 140 years, ruling establishments in New Delhi and Chennai remained utterly unconcerned with rural misery. Under such an apathetic political climate, subjecting aging cultivators to physical torment at Jantar Mantar yielded no positive response from stone-hearted rulers.

Stalin criticized the state administration for failing to secure comprehensive central drought compensation, national bank loan waivers, and interstate river water rights. While corporate defaults received prompt waivers and restructuring, impoverished farmers facing auction notices were completely abandoned. The complete absence of ministerial engagement underscored the anti-farmer character of the ruling dispensation.

The DMK leader urged agricultural federations to consolidate their strength back in Tamil Nadu to build an unyielding grassroots democratic movement. Stalin affirmed that the DMK would continue pressing for complete farm debt relief and fair crop compensation until agricultural dignity, fair prices, and sustainable rural economic security are permanently restored across Tamil Nadu.
