DMK working president M.K. Stalin urged Chief Minister Edappadi K. Palaniswami on August 8, 2017, to implement emergency public health measures to contain the terrifying outbreak of dengue fever across Tamil Nadu. Stalin highlighted that spiraling vector-borne infections had triggered severe panic among families, with thousands of patients, particularly young children, crowding government and private hospitals. The lack of proactive mosquito eradication drives and civic sanitation audits allowed seasonal viral infections to assume epidemic proportions.

Stalin criticized the state administration for downplaying casualty figures instead of mobilizing specialized medical task forces. District headquarters hospitals experienced severe crunches in platelet separation facilities, pediatric isolation wards, and intravenous supplies. Stalin pointed out that effective epidemic containment required intensive source-reduction drives, transparent reporting, regular fogging across residential localities, and community health awareness campaigns.

The DMK leader called upon the municipal administration and health directorates to coordinate round-the-clock fever surveillance camps in every urban ward and rural village.
