DMK working president M.K. Stalin demanded a comprehensive Central Bureau of Investigation inquiry on August 17, 2017, to uncover the truth behind the hospitalisation and demise of former Chief Minister J. Jayalalithaa. Stalin stated that seventy-five days of total secrecy surrounding her medical treatment at Apollo Hospitals had created lingering doubts among citizens across Tamil Nadu. To ensure an impartial and untainted investigation, Stalin called for the immediate resignation of Chief Minister Palaniswami and ministers who suppressed critical evidence.
Stalin highlighted that contradictory public statements issued by ruling party ministers confirmed deliberate concealment of basic medical facts. Those who governed alongside the former Chief Minister and managed government affairs during her hospital stay could not oversee an honest inquiry while holding executive power. The opposition leader emphasized that institutional integrity required an independent federal agency free from local executive influence to examine hospital logs and medical protocols.
The DMK leader affirmed that the public deserved total transparency regarding the circumstances surrounding the death of an elected head of government. Stalin asserted that accountability and truth must prevail over political cover-ups.
