DMK working president M.K. Stalin strongly condemned the state government on August 20, 2017, for unleashing police forces against peaceful demonstrations staged by public sector personnel. Stalin highlighted that more than ten lakh government employees and teachers had raised legitimate appeals concerning pension security, pay parity, and service conditions. Instead of inviting employee federation representatives for constructive discussions, the government deployed heavy police cordons to suppress legitimate assemblies across district centres.
Stalin pointed out that dedicated public servants, village administrative officers, and government schoolteachers implement frontline public welfare schemes across thirty districts. Denying them fair treatment and basic dignified hearing demonstrated utter executive apathy. Threatening arrest and penal disciplinary actions against personnel exercising peaceful democratic rights reflected a complete collapse of administrative wisdom in Chennai.
The DMK leader urged the Chief Minister to drop aggressive police tactics, release detained staff immediately, and convene tripartite discussions to resolve employee grievances amicably. Stalin assured government staff and teachers that the DMK firmly stood with their reasonable demands and would restore mutual trust, institutional dignity, fair welfare benefits, and secure working conditions upon assuming office.
