DMK working president M.K. Stalin asserted on August 24, 2017, that the ongoing crisis surrounding NEET was fundamentally a battle over state autonomy and federal rights. Stalin stated that reducing NEET to a mere academic debate overlooked its destructive impact on Tamil Nadu constitutional authority to manage its public healthcare and educational policies. He condemned the AIADMK regime for completely surrendering the state sovereign powers to the Union government, reducing Tamil Nadu to an administrative vassal of New Delhi.
Stalin emphasized that Tamil Nadu had constructed an enviable network of district medical colleges and rural primary healthcare centres by admitting vernacular students based on plus-two examination performance. By accepting an alien, centralized exam based on the CBSE syllabus, the state government destroyed the dreams of rural aspirants and compromised the long-term staffing of public hospitals. This subservience mocked the proud federalist legacy nurtured by Arignar Anna and Kalaignar Karunanidhi.
The DMK leader declared that the DMK would never accept this dilution of state authority. He pledged to mobilize public opinion and political alliances across India to restore state control over higher education.
