DMK working president M.K. Stalin issued a passionate appeal to the Governor of Tamil Nadu on August 25, 2017, urging him not to permit an unlawful cabinet to continue in power. Stalin stated that allowing a minority administration to govern without demonstrating legislative backing was equivalent to facilitating the murder of constitutional democracy. He highlighted that following the withdrawal of support by 19 AIADMK MLAs, the Chief Minister lacked the numerical strength to pass legislation or execute administrative policies legitimately.
Stalin emphasized that the Governor held a solemn constitutional responsibility under Article 164 of the Constitution to protect the sanctity of the legislature. Allowing an unrepresentative ministry to remain in office invited unscrupulous horse-trading, financial corruption, and unlawful executive intimidation of elected legislators. The prevailing political crisis demanded immediate gubernatorial intervention through the summoning of the Legislative Assembly for an open, monitored confidence vote.
The DMK leader warned that public patience was wearing thin across Tamil Nadu as governance remained completely paralyzed. He affirmed that the DMK coalition would take every constitutional, legal, and public measure to safeguard democracy from executive abuse and institutional inertia.
