DMK working president M.K. Stalin issued a stern warning on August 30, 2017, urging the Governor of Tamil Nadu to exercise his constitutional prerogative and remove the minority AIADMK administration. Stalin described the state cabinet as a puppet dispensation operating entirely at the behest of the central BJP government. He warned that if the Governor failed to convene the Legislative Assembly for a mandatory floor test, the DMK would not hesitate to deploy its full political and legal resources to restore constitutional order.
Stalin highlighted that following the formal withdrawal of support by 19 ruling party legislators, the Palaniswami cabinet commanded the confidence of only 113 members in a 234-member house, falling clearly below the constitutional threshold. Preserving an illegitimate regime through gubernatorial hesitation mocked parliamentary norms established by the Supreme Court of India. The state was paralyzed by governance inertia, policy drift, and brazen horsetrading while urgent public welfare needs went completely unaddressed.
The DMK leader affirmed that the opposition coalition would relentlessly pursue justice through constitutional courts and democratic mass movements. He declared that constitutional propriety could not be compromised to safeguard an unstable, unrepresentative government.
