Stalin interacted warmly with local cultivators and village elders who expressed immense gratitude to the DMK for restoring the historic water body after decades of neglect. He observed that the desilted basin would now harvest monsoon run-off efficiently, raising local groundwater tables and irrigating hundreds of acres of surrounding agricultural land.
