DMK working president M.K. Stalin registered vehement condemnation on August 31, 2017, after AIADMK miscreants vandalized and sabotaged the comprehensive lake desilting works completed by DMK cadres at Kacharayen lake in Salem district. Stalin stated that while the state experienced acute drought, the DMK had mobilized party cadres and voluntary public resources under the Kudimaramathu spirit to rejuvenate traditional water bodies. Instead of appreciating this constructive civic service, ruling party workers destroyed the bunds and silt bunding at the direct behest of Chief Minister Edappadi Palaniswami.

Stalin pointed out that the desilting of the extensive 400-acre lake had been undertaken with formal district administrative clearances to assist thousands of farming families and replenish depleted groundwater aquifers. Sabotaging water storage infrastructure out of petty political jealousy was a criminal act against rural farming communities. It demonstrated the ruling regime callous willingness to destroy public water assets rather than allow opposition volunteers to earn people gratitude.

The DMK leader affirmed that cowardly vandalism would never deter the party from carrying out water conservation initiatives. He pledged that DMK cadres would continue restoring water bodies across all districts.
