DMK working president M.K. Stalin characterized the incumbent AIADMK administration as a dark age in Tamil Nadu modern political history on August 31, 2017. Addressing public rallies, Stalin remarked that historians often documented specific periods characterized by administrative collapse and societal misery, and the prevailing regime embodied that very description. He stated that pervasive corruption, surrender of regional autonomy to the Union government, and utter apathy toward farmers and students had reduced state governance to unprecedented disrepute.
Stalin highlighted that the ruling faction remained engrossed in factional bargaining to protect ministerial portfolios while basic public services suffered across rural and urban districts. Hospitals faced medicine shortages, farmers endured catastrophic agrarian drought without relief, and young aspirants were deprived of medical seats. He asserted that no authoritarian or corrupt dispensation could survive against the simmering, unified indignation of eight crore citizens.
The DMK leader expressed unshakeable faith in the democratic power of the electorate. He affirmed that the people of Tamil Nadu would decisively reject this puppet regime at the earliest constitutional opportunity, paving the way for a progressive, people-oriented administration.
