DMK working president M.K. Stalin appealed directly to Union Minister for Electronics and Information Technology and Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh on September 1, 2017, urging swift executive intervention against the Blue Whale online menace. Stalin demanded that central ministries issue immediate directives to internet service providers and social media corporations to block and remove all download links, forums, and groups propagating the lethal challenge. He stressed that decisive federal action was imperative to protect the lives of vulnerable adolescents nationwide.
Stalin pointed out that multiple incidents of attempted and completed suicides linked to the underground game had been reported from various states, including Tamil Nadu. The absence of stringent regulatory oversight over malicious web content allowed overseas cyber networks to exploit impressionable youths without institutional resistance. The central government possessed the necessary statutory powers under the Information Technology Act to mandate immediate takedowns and enforce digital accountability across all communication platforms.
The DMK leader emphasized that protecting children from digital perils surpassed all political divisions. He expressed confidence that the Union government would act without delay to eliminate this lethal menace permanently.
