DMK working president M.K. Stalin issued a searing condemnation on September 1, 2017, immediately following the shocking news of medical aspirant S. Anitha suicide in Ariyalur. Stalin directly indicted the central BJP government and the subservient AIADMK state administration for driving an exceptionally talented, impoverished student to take her own life. He stated that Anitha death was institutional manslaughter caused by callous bureaucratic delays, misleading promises of exemption, and the obstinate refusal to respect Tamil Nadu legislative autonomy.

Stalin recalled that Anitha, despite having lost her mother early and living in severe economic distress, scored an extraordinary 1176 out of 1200 marks in her state board exams. She had even traveled to Delhi to argue before the highest court against NEET. The state government failure to mount an effective legal defense or pressure New Delhi for presidential assent had cruelly extinguished her dreams. The administration total betrayal had inflicted irreversible trauma on the student community.

The DMK leader called upon youth across Tamil Nadu not to lose hope or resort to desperate acts. He reaffirmed that the DMK would fiercely lead the fight for their rights.
