DMK working president M.K. Stalin traveled to the remote village of Kuzhumur in Ariyalur district on September 2, 2017, to pay tearful homage to the mortal remains of medical aspirant S. Anitha. Accompanied by senior party leaders, Stalin laid a wreath on the body of the young student, whose suicide had plunged Tamil Nadu into profound sorrow. He met Anitha grieving father, Shanmugam, a daily-wage load worker, and her relatives, expressing deep personal condolences and presenting a financial assistance of Rs 10 lakh on behalf of the DMK.
Stalin was visibly moved as he witnessed the modest thatched dwelling where Anitha had studied under extreme poverty to secure an extraordinary academic score. He stated that seeing a vibrant, meritorious daughter of Tamil Nadu extinguished by an unjust examination system was one of the most heartbreaking moments of his public life. Anitha was not just a student; she was the face of thousands of underprivileged children striving for social mobility through education.
The DMK leader vowed beside Anitha bier that her sacrifice would never be in vain. He pledged that the DMK would fight until NEET was dismantled.
