DMK working president M.K. Stalin demanded on September 3, 2017, the immediate resignations of Union Minister Nirmala Sitharaman, Chief Minister Edappadi K. Palaniswami, and state Health Minister C. Vijayabaskar. Stalin held these three leaders directly culpable for the tragic death of medical aspirant S. Anitha, pointing out that their deceitful public statements and administrative incompetence had shattered students trust. He stated that Nirmala Sitharaman had publicly promised central cooperation for an exemption ordinance, only for the Union government to betray Tamil Nadu before the Supreme Court.
Stalin emphasized that the Chief Minister and Health Minister had repeatedly reassured the public that medical admissions would proceed solely on the basis of plus-two marks. By misleading students until the final hour, they prevented thousands of aspirants from pursuing alternative educational streams. Such gross negligence and moral cowardice warranted immediate removal from office. A government that could not protect the lives and futures of its own youth had forfeited all moral right to govern.
The DMK leader declared that mere expressions of condolence could not absolve those in power. He insisted that the ministers must accept accountability and step down immediately.
