DMK working president M.K. Stalin announced on September 3, 2017, that an urgent consultative meeting of all opposition party leaders would convene at DMK headquarters, Anna Arivalayam, on September 4. Stalin stated that the meeting aimed to formulate a unified statewide action plan to demand justice for student S. Anitha and force the central government to grant immediate exemption from NEET. He noted that the unprecedented anger sweeping through college campuses required disciplined, collective political leadership to achieve meaningful democratic outcomes.
Stalin observed that the crisis extended far beyond partisan politics; it struck at the core of Tamil Nadu self-respect and the constitutional principle of social justice. With the state government abdicating its executive responsibility, the democratic opposition had an urgent duty to provide decisive guidance to the public. Leaders from various political movements had already expressed their resolve to participate in crafting a robust, coordinated campaign of mass agitations.
The DMK leader appealed to all democratic and secular forces to present a united front. He emphasized that only relentless, synchronized public mobilization would compel New Delhi to respect the state legitimate educational rights.
