DMK working president M.K. Stalin made a solemn declaration on September 3, 2017, affirming that the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam would fight relentlessly until education was restored to the State List of the Indian Constitution. Stalin stated that transferring education to the Concurrent List during the Emergency severely eroded federal rights, enabling the Union government to impose unilateral entrance tests like NEET on reluctant states. He insisted that true federal democracy required regional governments to retain complete authority over school curricula and university admission standards.
Stalin emphasized that Tamil Nadu would never submit to centralized educational diktats that obliterated social justice and regional aspirations. The catastrophic loss of bright students from impoverished backgrounds underscored the disastrous consequences of centralized administrative overreach. By dismantling state admission powers, New Delhi extinguished the hopes of rural, Tamil-medium, and underprivileged students who excelled in state board examinations.
The DMK leader pledged to build a formidable coalition of federalist states to demand constitutional amendments reassigning education to exclusive state jurisdiction. He declared that the DMK crusade against NEET would continue until total state educational autonomy was achieved.
